What Grievances Can Cover

A grievance is not a device for curing whatever ails you; your contract itself will have a definition of what is and is not covered by the grievance procedure. The most favorable definition of the scope of a grievance—though not the most common one—gives you the right to use the contract grievance procedure to challenge any area of concern connected to your workplace life. More commonly, a grievance will be defined in a more narrow fashion, covering at most only challenges to specific provisions in the contract.
